Kartanya Maynard is a Truwulway woman of nipaluna/Hobart in lutruwita/Tasmania. Since a young age Kartanya has been a storyteller and always aspired to be an artist.

She has explored many mediums such as music, poetry, writing and acting. In 2019 she won the Hobart Writers festival’s Emerging Tasmanian Aboriginal writers award for her poem Blackscape.

In 2022 for Mona Foma she co-created two public art installations, warr! and waranta takamuna, alongside artist Vernon Ah Kee.

Midway through 2023, Kartanya joined the cast of Netflix’s international hit series Heartbreak High. In the same year she played the lead role of “Ritchie” in ABC’s, The Messenger as well as key supporting roles in Amazon Prime’s original series, Deadloch and Gold Diggers for ABC & CBS Studios. In 2024 Kartanya co-lead Sydney Theatre Company’s powerful production of Jane Harrison's Stolen.
